What does PG2 actually do for you?

1. For primary connections: It prevents known flooders from using your resources in order to flood the network with fake files. It also prevents attempts to download from known data-miners who are on the recommended PG2 lists. These data miners are on winmx for the sole purpose of collecting data about who is attempting to download from them. The p2p list we recommend from Bluetack is the most extensive one available at this time.

2. For secondary connections: It will prevent accidental attempts to download from anyone on the block lists, such as known data-mining companies. Attempted downloads will just time out. This helps to protect your privacy while using WinMX.

3. For all connections: PG2 allows you to watch in realtime which IP address are being blocked. You have total control whether to continue blocking these IPs or allow them access to your computer.

Does PGLite bundled with the Vladd Pie Updater work as well as PG2?

No, it does not.

1. The guarding.p2p block list only contains IP addresses of known fake file flooders. It does not offer the user any privacy protection from data collecting companies.

2. Unless you are experienced with creating and updating your own lists, and have the time and patience to compare each individual ip with those on the recommended PG2 lists on a daily basis, it is impossible to match the protection of PG2 by using PGLite alone.

3. There is no "Allow" list option in order to override IP addresses on the Block list if a user chooses it. You may add or remove an IP address from the Block list; however it will be changed back every 2 hours by the automatic updater.

4. There is no way to watch what IP addresses are being blocked in real time.

Does the WinMXGroup or WinMXWorld Patch with integrated blocking work as well as PG2?

No, it does not.

1. The integrated block list only contains IP addresses of known fake file flooders. It does not offer the user any privacy protection from data collecting companies.

2. There is no "Allow" list option in order to override IP addresses on the Block list if a user chooses it. The list of IP addresses can not be managed by the user in any way.

3. There is no way to watch what IP addresses are being blocked in real time.

Information on setting up PG2 with the recommended lists for WinMX can be found at the following link:

Setting up PG2 for WinMX

We recommend PG with the use of three lists. They are as follows:

Block: http://peerguardian.sourceforge.net/lists/p2p.php
Block: http://files.sabmx.net/pg2/block.txt
Allow: http://files.sabmx.net/pg2/allow.txt

Your PG2 list manager should look like this:

Can you explain how PG2 can block the flooders when they dont know the relevant IPs and do not have anyone who does have them ?

I have viewed sabres private blocklists and those also do not contain any flooding IP ranges, although strangely enough a few folks he had fights with in chat chanels IP's are listed, why is this ?
