Problem: I am having problems connecting to winmx, i cannot d/l u/l search ot chat.

You need to forward ports to use Primary here is a tutorial on your router (since your router is new here is the next best tutorial:

If you need to use Primary you also must use Peerguardian here is the tutorial to install on Vista:

Vista sometimes does not like the default location for your download folder you should create a NEW folder on trhe drive you want to share and repoint winmx to that folder.
