Nickname: ksmacgyver

Problem Category: Misc. problem with WinMX

Operating System: Windows Vista

ISP: comcast

Type of Internet Connection: Broadband - Cable

Router or Modem/Router Combo: Yes netgear wgr614

WinMX Version: 3.53

Installed Patch: MXPie Patch

Type of WinMX Connection: Primary

Installed PG2: No

Added WinMX Lists: No

Problem: I am having problems with... my uploads after running for a while will all crash. they have the connection timed out, and waiting for connection messages. i have maxed out my wait settings to 300 seconds. if i wait for 1 to 4 hours they will start to upload again but for 1 to3 hours max before this all happens again. it also causes my downloads to drop off from a average of 4 or 5 running downloads to one or two for a bit. it will usually stop also, but files in queue do not seem to be affected. my p connections are usually at 7 or 8 on average. the s connection will go from 3 or 4 to 0.
if i restart winmx 3 or 4 times the uploads will start as soon as someone gets in my queue. but it really sucks to try to get my files into active queues that match.
i have this problem no matter what my settings are for bandwith and i never allow more than 2 uploads above my max of six uploads at a time.
if you need more info just let me know. I dont want to look like a leech, i love the winmx life and love sharing! any help can only benefit us all and be greatly appreciated thank you, ksmacgyver

Hi Ksmacgyver

First try installing Peerguardian all Primary users must run it here is a tutorial on installing.

http://winmx4u.com/mxpie.info/pg2v/index.html

What do you see LEFT of the ignore button? There should be text there telling you what patch exactly you are using.

Have you forwarded ports through your router for wimx? This is a tutorial on the correct process to forward ports fill in your tcp and udp port numbers and your computers internal ip (192.168.?.?) and scroll down through the tutorial and type in exactly as shown.

i have the 3.6 pie patch and peer guardian2. with settings according to the tutorial. still experiencing earlier posted problems.
pg2 keeps telling me it needs to update the list. both minmx lists say no new updates. the list file from http//peerguardian.sourceforge.net/lists/p2p.php is not able to update.
I have tried to do a fresh d/l and install a few times and still cant get it to work properly.
peerblock 1.0 says it continues where pg2 left off. this program seems to find all the lists with no problems. is peerblock a viable alternative for winmx? or even compatible to replace pg2? my connection is a 5mbps cable broadband.

What is the exact wording you see in the window to the left of the ignore button in winmx?

The Secondary going to 0 is usually a firewall problem or a patch conflict if you had previously installed a different patch and not removed it correctly.

I havent seen peerblock 1.0 so can say if its good or not.

pg2 will update every two days if it sees a cnage in the file it will upload it if not it will say there is no change.

replace the http//peerguardian.sourceforge.net/lists/p2p.php file with this one it is the same file but a different format http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz

i just did a total uninstall of peer guardian and the pie patch even from program files and downloaded fresh from the pie page just to make sure everything is up to date. rebooted my puter and tried restarting winmx several times to still have my uploads time out.
i used the PFport checker and the ports 6699 and 6257 are open and available. with winmx allowed in the firewall. even with the firewall turned off.
the fresh pie patch says its the 3.6 3.6 version

the community patch needs to be removed correctly or it will interfear with poprtforwarding.

this tutorial will tell you how to remove. The dll file must be renamed with winmx Off.
