I am just wondering If anyone else is having the same problem.
When I click on music and only a few people are available, I generally can download the music. But If there are hundreds of people who have the same song, the download always times out. 20 some can show up and I can download, but if it gets to be too many, I always get a time out message back. Anyone know what is causing this? I never had it happen before.

Hi DJ COLT,

What you are seeing are most likely fakes. If you have noticed they are probably the latest mp3 music hits which are a popular download target and therefore also a popular target for copyright enforcement companies to flood the network with in order to obtain data about those who attempt to download them.

The thing is that most of the items that I am getting this on are old songs, not new. And even a few new ones aren't that popular that I am going after. You would think I would find at least one here or there. It doesn't happen that oftenn, but trying to download an old Donna Summer song or the new Erasure song is getting frustrating. Most of what I go after is stuff I usually can't find anywhere else. I buy what I can. I download the rest here since I can't find most of it for purchase. The studios don't go after club mixes, but I have the same problem there occasionally too. I guess I will have to figure a way to find some of this music. Thanks anyway.

The other common problem on WinMX is that a lot of people are using routers now-a-days and don't know how to set up WinMX to work correctly with them. Therefore you can end up with a lot of search results from people who can download but can't upload.

By the way, if you are using a primary connection, installing Peer Guardian can help remove some of the fake files out of your search results.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll see if it works.
I am just wondering what is going to happen now with Win MX
Maybe my questions were for nothing.
I think I was able to download most of what I was looking for.
Just a few that I still am trying to get.
Hope I don't have to find a new peer to peer.
Thanks again
COLT

What do you mean? WinMXGroup may have closed down, but MXPie is still here providing a method of connection to WinMX. So WinMX isn't going to disappear just because WinMXGroup is no longer providing their method of connection to it. By the way, most of the people on our team have been a part of it since Day 1, when Frontcode made their decision to shut down their servers, so we are quite dedicated to this project. Smile

Yeah, I know, Gemini777!
I am very grateful that the mxpie team has been working so diligently for the WinMX network!
I have been using mxpie patch since "Day 1". Otherwise, I couldn't have been a WinMX user for five years.

I find (not that I need to download music these days) the best way to sort out fake search results from the real deal is simply to use the Ping all results button provided in the later editions of WinMX.... With Peer Guardian 2 running and its lists all up to date, the fake search results will show a ? in the Ping section... just scroll down the list 'till you see a ping time result... typical is anywhere from 90 (good) to over 500 (not so good).

Anyway when you see a ping result that is NOT a ? try connecting to that one... They are normally the good guys... If you ever see Rigmar Radio (that is me!) I have over 10,000 mp3 to share so go for it.

Problem with me is I am often on Azureus (Bit Torrent Client) these days grabbing TV shows to watch... sorry about that.

Hey rigmar, thank you for that information there that is what i suggest to users when picking the best user to download from in the search feature of winmx............

And thankyou for sharing your files but as you know using a primary connection only allows the user to see 5000 of them and with secondary showing 3000..........but im sure you know that already...

Thanks again Very Happy
