How do I keep these following files from appearing on my desktop? {lib4.dat, settings.dat, ignore.dat} Every time I delete them they will just reappear after starting winmx or mxmoni. |

These files belongs to WinMX application. Probably, when you installed WinMX you have changed the natural path for the application, which is C:\Program Files\WinMX.
Better uninstall it and make a new install of WinMX. |

I think he'd installed WinMX on his desktop, I bet everytime he deleted those files... WinMX start like new, best thing to do as Sam said is, install WinMX somewhere else and create a shortcut to WinMX executable on your desktop |
